Brexit and the Catalonian Referendum of Independence - Two Sides of the Same Coin?

Brexit continues to attract interest globally.

In a recent talk in front of a large Chinese audience, BiE expert Dr de la Rasilla addressed the issue of ' Brexit and the Catalonian Referendum of Independence - Two Sides of the Same Coin?', drawing parallels between the political instability, the negative economic consequences and the decrease of international prestige that both the EU referendum and the Catalonian one have had on the UK and Spain respectively.

Dr de la Rasilla came to this conclusion despite taking note of important differences between the two referendums. The Catalonian referendum was unconstitutional under Spanish law and unjustified from the perspective of international law, he argued.

Dr de la Rasilla's lecture was delivered in front of circa 200 Chinese students of the Hainan College of Economics and Business in late December 2018.
