Theresa May's position on EU citizens' rights challenged on several grounds

BiE expert Dr. Ruvi Ziegler was interviewed on Radio Sputnik (Moscow) live on Friday, June 25, discussing the PM's statement at the Brussels summit concerning the status and rights of non-UK EU citizens post-Brexit.

Dr. Ziegler highlighted several challenges arising from the statement, especially regarding the continued uncertainty prompted by an undisclosed 'cut-off' date; the application of contentious UK criteria for Permanent Residence (likely to be replaced by 'settled' status); to the future role of the ECJ in adjudicating rights-claims; and the effect the UK's unwelcoming approach on future immigration.

He also appraised some of the other stumbling blocks in the UK's negotiations with the EU-27, as well as the feasibility of the UK eventually remaining.
